Glenpark road works welcomed

Published: 1 July, 2008

Sinn Féin councillor Sean Clarke has welcomed recent work undertaken by Roads Service on the Glenpark road outside Gortin.

Cllr Clarke tabled a question to Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy through Pat Doherty MP. In the question Cllr Clarke asked the Minister 'what measures his department was taking to enhance the safety of the Glenpark Road.'

In his response the Minister revealed

"Various scheme carried out on the Glenpark Road over the past five years have resulted in the improvement of approximately 80% of this road. Recently, a 160 metre portion of the road was realigned to improve stability and later this year, Roads Service intends to survey a further 600 metres of the road to determine whether realignment of this portion is viable"

Sean Clarke hailed the development as 'welcome news'.

"I welcome the work carried on the Glenpark road recently by Roads Service and I also welcome the fact that a further survey of the road will take place in the very near future. A number of motorists on this road have brought the poor state of the surface to my attention and to the attention of my party Colleague, Claire McGill MLA. As such, I welcome the news that Roads Service is delivering on this important project for the residents and motorists who use this busy road on a daily basis.
