McCann seeking Kilskerry/Old Junction Road to be included in gritting schedule

Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen McCann has made representations to the Department of Infrastructure to have the Kilskerry/Old Junction Road included in the winter gritting schedule.

He said,

"While officially designated as a B road this route services people travelling to Irvinestown from Trillick, Tempo, Coa, Kilskeery and has a very heavy traffic volume.

"Because it does not be treated the road is always precarious to travel on when freezing/icy conditions take hold and the resultant hazards and dangers were amply illustrated during the most recent cold snap whereby a number of vehicles left the road and it was just through sheer luck that there were no serious injuries or even fatalities.

"However, it is clear that a serious accident is waiting to happen unless this route is treated "I have been lobbied heavily by commuters seeking this route be treated.

"I understand that a route requires 1500 vehicles per day to travel the route So, I now have requested that a vehicle count be completed by the Department's roads section to review vehicle movements and further to request that this route be considered for winter treatment."
