Mid Tyrone Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Donnelly has condemned those responsible for robbing valuable tools and equipment from a yard in the Sixmilecross area on Friday evening.

Cllr Donnelly said "It is reprehensible that individuals broke into the yard of a hard working family and robbed it of welders, tools, drills, paint and much more.

"I called with the family on Saturday and spoke to local people who are shocked and annoyed that a young family could be targeted in such a way. I urge anyone with information to make it known so that these culprits can be caught. Also, if anyone is approached in suspicious circumstances with an offer to buy tools or equipment which match the description of the stolen goods to make this known immediately.

"Unfortunately, there appears to be a spike in rural crime and this is something that the PSNI and their counterparts in the Garda must put a focus on. Just 2 weeks ago a family in Plumbridge was targeted and there have been other break-ins and robberies in the district in recent times.

"The people who carry out such robberies are a scourge on the community and I urge neighbours in rural areas to watch out for each other and report any suspicious activity".
