West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has said that parts of Mid Tyrone and the Sperrins have been badly affected by overnight snowfall that has made many roads virtually impassable. Mr Mc Aleer said "I met community representatives in the Sperrins last night and travelled home through Plumbridge and Gortin and the driving conditions were treacherous. This has resulted in many busses not making it out this morning and children off school. "In Beragh, a gritter lorry slipped off the road due to icy conditions. I spoke to the driver of the vehicle and thankfully on this occasion he has escaped without injury. This highlights the poor conditions of the road but also highlights the risk that many TransportNI employees expose themselves to in trying to keep our roads open".
