West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has paid tribute to the work of Omagh Forum for Rural Associations following their AGM which took place in Loughmacrory on Thursday evening. Mr Mc Aleer said "Omagh Forum plays a hugely important role in promoting the needs of rural communities. Their initiatives in education, advocacy, capacity building and tackling poverty play a vital role in improving the lives of thousands of local people. "From an MLA perspective, the work of organisations like Omagh Forum underlines the importance of protecting DARD's Trpsi (Tackling Rural Poverty & Social Isolation) programme and at local level I can clearly see the benefits of Trpsi through the work of Omagh Forum. "Loughmacrory Community Development Association was privileged to host this year's AGM and it also gave LCDA an opportunity to showcase the new facilities at the lough. The Loughview centre was packed with delegates and loads of discussion took place, particularly on the opportunities which will arise from the new Rural Development Programme. "As the chair of LCDA, I was personally honoured to open the proceedings and I would like to congratulate all the groups and individuals who received awards this year for their endeavours in their local areas. Congratulations also to the team at Omagh Forum on another successful year".
