Say "I do" to Organ Donation- Sinn Féin

A Sinn Féin delegation attended an awareness event in Stormont organised to mark the start of Transplant Awareness Week.

Speaking in support of the campaign local MLA Michaela Boyle said,

"This is a timely reminder of the need for people to sign up and register to become organ donors.

"Each year too many people die on organ transplant waiting lists simply because there are not enough donors.

"I have been in that difficult position where a decision had to be made about donating a family members organs. To now know that many people have survived because of this decision gives me great strength."

Continuing on Sinn Féin representative Grace McDermott said,

"As well as signing up to become an organ donor I would encourage people to have a discussion about organ donation with their loved ones.

"Organs can only be donated with the permission of a person's relatives. So it is vitally important that family members are aware of someone's decision to become an organ donor.

"On this year's Transplant Awareness Week I would encourage as many people as possible to register to become donors and give the gift of life to someone else."
