Sinn Féin call on Health Minister to visit Dromore Day Care Centre

Published: 17 August, 2015

Sinn Féin representatives have written to the Minister of Health Simon Hamilton calling on him to visit the Day Care Centre in Dromore following its proposed closure.

Speaking this week Sinn Féins Grace McDermott said,

"We have written to the Health minister requesting a meeting to discuss the proposed closure of the Dromore Day Care Centre. We visited the centre this week and after speaking with the service users it is clear to see this will be a massive loss to the local community if this closure goes ahead.

"The centre does fantastic work and is the only opportunity many of the users get to socialise with others and to leave their homes for a few hours. The local community and political representatives must stand together to oppose this closure."

Continuing on local councillor Glenn Campbell said,

"We have also requested that the Minister visits the centre to see for himself the excellent work which is carried out there by the staff and the importance of this facility to the service users.

"The Minister should be working closely with the Western Health Trust to make sure that this project can be enhanced in the future and not diminished. I have seldom come across a case more compelling than this and as a councillor for the area, I am determined to play my part to prevent the closure of this centre."
