Cllr Sorcha McAnespy, as chair healthcare committee of Omagh District council, led a cross party delegation from Omagh and Strabane district council areas last week to meet minister of health Jim Wells in Belfast.

Speaking as she returned from the meeting councillor McAnespsy said:

"The number one priority was to reiterate the need to transfer the pledges made to Omagh District Council in relation to the location of an acute mental health facility. We pressed the minister to implement the commitment and pledges of successive health ministers that Omaghs new enhanced local hospital will include the acute mental health unit and addictions treatment services in phase 2 of the development to be honoured. And that these decisions are made in a timely manner.

"We also sought a reassurance that there is a fair, just and adequate allocation of resources as we are mostly a rural area.

"My party colleague from Strabane, Councillor Michelle McMackin also highlighted the negative impact of the reduction in domiciliary care and the inadequacy of core packages for patients being discharged from hospital or for patients in the community who require increased care

"It was welcomed from the minister that the new local enhanced hospital was 100% protected
