Mc Aleer welcomes LFA transition payment for DA farmers

West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has welcomed the decision by DARD to make a one-year LFA transition payment to approximately 7000 farmers in the current Disadvantaged Area (DA).
According to Mr Mc Aleer who sits on the DARD committee, "Farmers in Disadvantaged Areas have received LFACA payments since the 1980's; however under the new EU CAP policy they will no longer be eligible.
"In terms of claiming this payment, farmers should note that the department has set an application deadline of 13th March 2015 and a flat rate payment of£14.40 per hectare. Payment will be based on the determined DA land in the 2014/15 LFACA application year.
Mr Mc Aleer concluded "Whilst the phasing out of LFA payments will be disappointing for DA farmers, particularly in the current economic climate, it is hoped that this one year transition payment will help reduce the impact by giving farmers additional time to adjust".
