West Tyrone MLA should apologize for disrespectful comments on Irish language- McHugh

Derg Sinn Féin councillor Maolíosa McHugh, has described comments by West Tyrone DUP MLA Tom Buchanan as disgraceful and disrespectful.
The DUP MLA who spoke at a 'Lets Talk' event in Omagh this week in front of students from the local schools said "People have lost their sense of humour" when questioned about his party colleague Gregory Campbells comments on the Irish language.
Councillor McHugh said,
"71% of the young people at the event said Gregory Campbell should apologise for his comments and 86% of them found the comments offensive. Given these results Tom Buchanans remarks are hugely disappointing and disrespectful to Irish speakers in this area. Mocking anyone's language or cultural identity is wrong.
Elected representatives are leaders in this community and, as such, those we represent expect us to show tolerance and mutual respect for all.
There is absolutely no excuse for Toms behavior. I am calling on him to retract his comments and apologise to the Irish language community in West Tyrone."
The behavior of Gregory Campbell and some of his DUP colleagues towards the Irish language demonstrates again that the British government must honour its commitment to an Acht na Gaeilge."
