Sinn Féin Mid Tyrone Councillor Barry McNally has welcomed the commencement of road works on the Mullanmore road in Carrickmore. He was speaking after making representations to Roads Service on the issue a number of months ago. The Mid Tyrone councillor said:

"The Mullanmore road linking Carrickmore and Loughmacrory had been in very poor state particularly in the last number of months. Large potholes had developed in places and the roadway was very seriously deteriorated. The stretch from Carrickmore to its junction with the Camlough Road was particularly bad and is continually of concern to local people.

"I had highlighted my concerns to Roads Service about the poor condition of this particular road a number of months ago. Therefore I was glad to learn that in the past week work has commenced on Carriageway improvements, which will enhance the overall road condition and will be welcomed by local people, including the large number of residents who use the road on a daily basis and who had previously raised their concerns with me.
