Carrickmore Sinn Féin support Zambia Outreach Project

Published: 6 May, 2014

Mid Tyrone Sinn Féin representative Barry McNally recently made a donation to local Carrickmore woman Colleen Conway who is travelling to Zambia in July to volunteer with SERVE.

Carrickmore and Creggan Sinn Féin recently held a 'Guess the Score' fundraiser for the National League match between Dublin and Tyrone. As a result of no one winning the draw and in accordance with the rules the prize money of £50 was donated to a local charity.

In making the presentation and applauding Colleen's efforts, Barry McNally said,

"I would like to applaud Colleen for this very selfless initiative. She is a role model in the charitable work she has committed herself too. Recent figures state that 69% of the 14.2 million people in Zambia now live below the poverty line. Colleen will be travelling out to help some of those worst affected.

"Colleen will join a team of volunteers who will travel to Zambia in July for a four week outreach project. They will lend their time and energy in delivering various skills training and personal development programmes. Additionally they will support the education and nutrition programme for vulnerable young people and assist the development of an agriculture skills training centre. We are proud to support her."
