Strabane job losses are a devastating blow- Boyle

Published: 30 April, 2014

News has emerged that jobs at Quantum Hosiery in Strabane are to go. Quantum took over 'Adria' which was once one of the Strabane Districts biggest employers. The jobs are currently based in Porters factory on the Derry Road, Strabane, however, a decision has been made to relocate these jobs to their English offices leaving the workers from Strabane in a devastating position.

Speaking today MLA for the area Michaela Boyle said,

"This is another massive blow for Strabane. I am absolutely devastated for the workers and their families. I know some of the workers personally and I am truly saddened by the news. It appears as though this is the final nail in the coffin for the old Adria site as the last workers from Adria go.
It is now important that the needs of the workers are paramount as they face an uncertain future.

Today Myself and Pat Doherty MP wrote to Quantum asking them to re-think this decision.

We have also requested a meeting with the head of InvestNI to receive an update on the Strabane business park which remains empty. It is vital that we start to benefit from this site by infrastructure being put in place through inward investment, business expansion and most crucially the creation of new jobs."
