A5 Newtownsaville junction putting lives at risk - Campbell

Published: 31 January, 2014

Councillor Glen Campbell has called on Roads Service to urgently upgrade the A5 Newtownsaville junction. The West Tyrone Councillor has recently met with Harold Henry of Roads Service and local concerned residents at the site in order to address serious road safety concerns. Councillor Campbell said, "I have personally observed several motorists avoid the right hand filter lane, which is reducing their vision of the road ahead and increasing the chances of a collision. While we expect the full delivery of the A5 Dual Carriageway, in the interim, we need existing road safety concerns addressed." "I urge Roads Service to deliver on plans to upgrade the A5 - Newtownsaville junction. The current state of the right hand turn filter lane is putting motorist's lives at risk. My colleague in the Assembly, Barry McElduff MLA has also raised the issue with the Divisional Road's Manager, Conor Loughrey and Roads Service has informed me that this remedial work is a priority. They now need to push ahead with this scheme as a matter of urgency."
