West Tyrone Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle this week attended an event organised by Special Olympics Ireland in Stormont.

Participants, volunteers and families gathered with politicians and sporting organisations to officially launch 'Team Ulster' for this year's Irish Special , which will take place in Limerick in June.

1,500 Special Olympics athletes from the 4 corners of Ireland will participate in the 3-day residential Games, in 13 sports competitions and a Motor Activities Training Programme.

Michaela Boyle said, "I would like to wish everyone from Team Ulster taking part in the Special Olympics Ireland Limerick Games 2014 every success. It will be a wonderful experience for all those taking part in such a magnificent event.

In particular, I would like to mention Julian McIntyre from Strabane and Edel Kelly from Beragh who I had the privilege of meeting at the event, and to everyone else from Tyrone who qualified to take part.

It's a massive achievement to be part of such a wonderful sporting occasion and to be able to represent your Province.

Sport is a great leveller and apart from the fun involved and the plethora of health benefits associated, it allows people to mix and become socially mobile.

I wish them every success at the event in June."
