Extension of Spout Road crash barrier needed to protect against 60ft drop-Mc Cauley

Published: 8 October, 2013

Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Jay Mc Cauley is awaiting a response from Road's Service to representations he has been making seeking a 3 metre extension to the existing crash barrier at Spout Road to protect motorists and pedestrians from a 60ft drop down into the burn walk beside Drumrallagh Estate.

He said,

"The existing barrier needs extended by at least 3 metres to protect motorist and pedestrians alike from the danger of leaving the road and going down the 60ft drop into the burn walk beside Drumrallagh below.

"This part of the Spout Road is extremely narrow and motorists coming down into the town from the country side are particularly at risk at this danger spot as are pedestrians who are forced up on to the narrow verge to make way for oncoming traffic.

"I have been in discussion with the local Roads Service Section Manager about the issue and my request for an extension of the existing barrier is now being assessed.
