Castlederg Sinn Féin Councillor has welcomed the commitment made by Health Minister Edwin Poots to upgrade and maintain the old Derg Valley hospital site which has become a cause of complaint amongst local people.
Cllr Mc Hugh said;
'It recent times, the grounds and entrance road to the old Derg Valley hospital site have become neglected and it also has been the location for some illegal dumping. This was brought to my attention by local people who had complained how unsightly the whole area has become. I asked local party MLA Michaela Boyle to make representations to the Minister requesting that the entrance road to the ambulance station is improved and that the overall site properly maintained.
'In response, the Minister has now given a commitment, on behalf of the Western Health and Social Care Trust, who look after the site for the Department, that there are plans to carry out the necessary repairs to the damaged section of the wall on the Ambulance station entrance road and also to resurface the road sometime during the Autumn 2013.
He has also given me a commitment to continuously monitor the grass growth on the site and in particular around the ambulance station. In relation to the illegal dumping he gave an assurance that this is an issue the Trust is taking very seriously and will continue to monitor with a view to determining appropriate measures to prevent this reoccurring.
'I welcome the commitments given by the Minister and I will continue to monitor the situation on the ground myself'
