Derg Sinn Féin Councillor Ruairí Mc Hugh has hit out at BT over a complete lack of response to their phone and broadband customers in the Listymore Park area near Castlederg, some of which have been left without services since last Monday 8 June ,he said
'' Some of BT residential customers in Listymore Park have been left without phone or broadband provision for over a week. I am led to believe the outage of phone and broadband services happened following a contractor causing damage to phone lines while carrying out a new street lighting scheme last Monday.
' I have had several concerned residents in touch with me who for both work and personal reasons cannot do without these vital services. They had contacted BT as soon as the outage happened and were given empty promises that technicians would be out within 24 hours only for them to never appear.
' Immediately as an elected representative I contacted BT, they assured me that technicians would be on site to rectify the situation as of today 16 July to assess the damage with a view to restoring services as quickly as possible. While I welcome this commitment the excuse I and BT's customers were given from BT Residential that ' our people are on holidays ' is totally unacceptable.
' While I accept many people do take holidays at this time of the year, BT need to recognise that a lot of their customers do not. Surely a company the size of BT with the massive profits they make every year should be able to ensure enough technical staff are on hand to tend to emergency outages such as this one in Listymore Park within a reasonable time frame. The people of Listymore Park deserve better services from BT and I intend to make a formal complaint about it''
