Roads Minister Danny Kennedy has agreed to appear before the DRD committee on Wednesday to answer questions on the stalled A5 dual carriageway scheme.
According to West Tyrone MLA, Declan Mc Aleer, who is a member of the committee 'Following Minister Kennedy's refusal to discuss the A5 at our last meeting he has now agreed to appear before the DRD committee on Wednesday to update us.
'There is alot of public anger out there and people are demanding answers and assurances that this project will move ahead as soon as possible because lives and jobs are at stake. On Monday I met with the Regional Director of the Quarry Products Association, Gordon Best to discuss the knock on effect of the scheme being stalled.
'He told me that the industry is extremely concerned and that virtually all stategic roads programmes, including the A5 have stalled, placing a question mark over hundreds of jobs.
Mr Mc Aleer concluded 'At at time when our airports are full of young people forced to emigrate to the far ends of the world in search of work, it is imperitive that this habitats assessement and public consultation is carried swiftly and competently to enable the A5 to get back on track again. I will be making this point very clear to Minister Kennedy on Wednesday, people are looking for answers'.
