Chapel Car Park to get makeover- Sinn Féin
Published: 21 May, 2013
Sinn Féin says that the car park opposite Strabane Chapel is to get a much-needed makeover following lobbying by the party.
Councillor Michelle McMackin said,
"The car park has fallen into a bad state of disrepair with the cobble brick in the dividing islands between the parking areas becoming dislodged with some sections of the cobble brick sinking inwards while others are protruding upwards.
"The dangers to users of this uneven and unstable surface are compounded because large areas of the car park have also become overgrown with weeds and are strewn with assorted litter.
"On foot of representations from parishioners and other local people, Sinn Féin has been lobbying relevant statutory agencies in an effort to have these problems addressed.
"We have now secured an agreement from the Housing Executive that it will lift the cobbled brick areas affected and will grass seed and landscape these areas instead and will de-weed the wider car park area. We have also secured a commitment from Council's Technical Service Department that it will maintain the car park in terms of lifting litter on an on-going basis.
"We are looking forward to this work commencing as soon as possible and hope it will not only make it not only make the car park safer for users but also lead to a vast improvement in terms of visual appearance".
