Mc Guire calls for meeting with Donegal County Council to deal with 'Border Roads'

Published: 21 May, 2013

At last week's full council meeting, Derg Sinn Féin Councillor Kieran Mc Guire asked Strabane District Council to formally convene a meeting with Donegal County Council officials, DRD Roads Service and elected councillors from the Finn Valley Electoral and Derg Electoral areas respectively to bring a focus to issues affecting communities along this Border area.

Cllr Mc Guire said

"Over the years, and in recent months in particular, I have had numerous constituents coming to me with problems they face on a daily basis along the Tyrone Donegal border. A major source of frustration for people is the state of some of the roads and the length of time it takes for repairs to be carried out when a 'pothole' appears.

"Anyone who is a regular traveller on the road from the Castlederg area to Clady, Ballybofey or Donegal Town will have first-hand experience of this. This is why I have asked SDC to ensure that DCC and DRD Roads Service are part of any meeting'

He continued

'Apart from the poor road infrastructure we also have to deal with rural crime and the unsightly problem of dumping and 'fly tipping' along some of these roads. This is such a blight on our beautiful countryside and I realise that it must be tackled in a holistic way covering the two counties. I am looking forward to this meeting taking place and hopefully the beginnings of a good working relationship with our colleagues in Donegal to enable to tackle some of these issues.
