Welcome for formal adoption of road name

Published: 9 October, 2012

Sinn Féin Mid Tyrone Councillor Sean Donnelly has welcomed the decision to allocate a road name to a route linking Altamuskin and Aghnagar roads in Mid Tyrone.

Explaining the situation councillor Donnelly said:

"This road was formerly two lanes which linked the Altamuskin and Aghnagar roads, which in recent years has been connected and tarred. Although there are a number of dwellings on the road, these households used addresses Aghnagar and Altamukin road addresses. Following correspondence from the council, local residents agreed that the road should be formally adopted as the Ballykeel Road, reflecting the townland in which the road is situated.

Welcoming the development, councillor Donnelly said:

"This is a welcome development, indeed local people referred to this road as the Ballykeel road for a considerable period so the formal adoption of the name is to be welcomed. The council have agreed to register the addresses for new postcodes and also have agreed to write to all statutory agencies to inform them of the change so that they can update their records'.
