£5.5 Million available through Farm Modernisation Programme

Published: 21 August, 2012

Sinn Féin Councillor Peter Kelly has called on the local farming community to prepare now for the opening of the latest Farm Modernisation Programme after the Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill announced it will open on the 4th September. It has also been revealed that there will be £5.5 million available in the latest tranche of funding.

Speaking following the announcement Councillor Kelly said:

"I want first of all to welcome the announcement from the Minister that the programme will open in September. The Farm Modernisation Programme (FMP) is a highly important scheme which has seen many farmers benefit in updating machinery, improving safety on their farms as well as utilising latest technology and increasing competiveness in the market.

"The FMP is an important one for farmers and this has been acknowledged with that fact that a total of £5.5 million has been made available through this tranche of funding. This is a huge investment into the farming sector. Indeed it is estimated that up to 3000 farmers have already availed of funding made available to date through this programme.

"The programme opens to applications on 4th September and I would urge local farmers to prepare for this now by obtaining the application forms and gathering the necessary paper work. Farmers then have a six week window to apply for the programme, with a closure date of 19th October.CRÍOCH
