Dromore Bank Closure 'devastating blow'.

Published: 27 July, 2012

West Tyrone Sinn Féin councillor Ann Quinn has said she will asking First Trust bank to reconsider their decision to close the bank in Dromore. The announcement, which wasn't expected was revealing in a statement from the bank. The statement read 'After a comprehensive review of branch usage, we have had to make the difficult decision to close our branch in Dromore from close of business on 16 November 2012.' Local councillor for the area, Ann Quinn, in response said the news was a 'devastating blow' to the town:

"The announcement that First Trust bank are to close their Dromore branch will be a huge and devastating blow to the town and local economy. The bank have said this move is a 'structural change' about making First Trust 'a streamlined, more cost-effective and efficient organisation'. It is my opinion that this is purely a commercial decision that disregards the needs of loyal customers and the local Dromore community. In future, people will be less likely to show loyalty to a single bank, since recent branch closures show how this loyalty is not being repaid.

"Unfortunately this is the closure of another important service from the rural community of this area of Tyrone which has suffered, particularly in more recent times from lack of investment and a withdrawal of services. I am also particularly concerned about the staff currently employed in Dromore. The statement makes no mention whether the staff will be relocated elsewhere or whether they stand the chance of losing their jobs. This is something I will be raising with First Trust in the coming days.CRIOCH
