West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP MLA Michaela Boyle has extended a massive 'comhghairdeas' to Strabane's Irish language community in securing 1st place in the national Gór na nGael awards awarded each year to the organisation that has done most to promote and advance the Irish language.
"If ever there was accolade so richly deserved well this is definitely the case in respect of Gaelphobal. The sterling efforts of all those involved in Gaelphobal, and its constituent groups, down through the years have brought the Irish language centre stage of the linguistic, educational, cultural, social and civic life of Strabane.
"The dedication, hard work and vision of all those involved, backed up by the tremendous encouragement, support and generosity of the wider community down through the years, have combined to bring this national recognition to Strabane and the entire community can feel immensely proud of this collective achievement.
"Undoubtedly Gaelphobal will not rest on its laurels and will be already planning the next steps ahead in making the Irish language and culture even stronger part of the fabric of this community for the years ahead. Comhghairdeas Gaelphobal.
