Councillor Welcomes Decision to Save Fintona Library
Published: 21 October, 2011
Fintona Sinn Féin Councillor Glenn Campbell has welcomed Libraries NI's decision on Thursday (20th October) to retain Fintona Library.
Cllr Campbell said,
"I am delighted that Libraries NI have taken on board the views of the local community in Fintona and have decided to keep the library open. I also welcome their commitment to work in partnership with the Fintona Library Campaign Group and the local community in developing and enhancing library provision in the town."
Cllr Campbell continued,
"I, along with party colleague Barry McElduff MLA, have been actively involved in the campaign to save Fintona Library. Many other individuals and groups have supported the campaign to save this valuable community resource. " Commenting on the local response to the public consultation, Cllr Campbell said, "During the public consultation, the people of Fintona have energised towards their local library. At the packed public meeting in the Golf Club local people, including those from the Polish community in Fintona, came out in force to articulate the case for the retention of the Library."
Concluding, Cllr Campbell said,
I want to commend everyone who has responded to the consultation and put forward innovative ideas on their vision for the Library's future. Today we can celebrate the decision to retain Fintona Library. But already, much innovative planning is in process towards its long term future. A very compelling case for the retention of the library has been put forward. I am confident that, in the time ahead, the soundness of that case will be proven."
