Published: 20 September, 2011

A new book 'Tyrones Struggle for Irish Freedom' is due to be officially launched in Omagh on Friday evening.

The book is a culmination of over 10 years of intensive research and is an in-depth account of the role played by the people of this county in the struggle. The launch will be preformed by Omagh native Danny Donnelly. Danny escaped from Crumlin Road Gaol on St Stephen's Day 1960.

The book was commissioned by the Tyrone Sinn Féin Commemoration Committee. Speaking ahead of the launch committee member and local Sinn Féin councillor Declan McAleer said:

"It is an impressive book with a wide ranging look across the county in terms of the republican struggle through the years. The book itself traces the county's struggle from the 1500s right up until the current phase of the struggle. It is in hardback and divided into 18 chapters, amounting to almost 700 pages and over 500 photographs, most of which have not been seen before.

"I would invite local republicans along to the launch of this new book. The launch will take place at

James Street

in Omagh on Friday evening at 7:30pm. Tea and refreshments will be served.
