Councillor Condemns Fly tipping in Drumannon

Published: 5 September, 2011

Sinn Fein Omagh town councillor Sorcha McAnespy has called for an end to fly tipping in Drumannon Rise in the Town. The local councillor said she has had complaints from several residents in the Drumannon area that fly tipping has become a problem locally in the past number of weeks.

Speaking on the issues councillor McAnespy said:

"I would call for an end to the fly tipping in Drumannon. This problem has only recently arisen and has previously never been an issue in this area. Fly tipping is not only an eyesore but also impacts on local health and safety. It also presents an additional financial burden on local rate payers.

"There are numerous civic amenity sites local where waste can be disposed of in a safe and controlled manner. Such instances of fly tipping are completely unacceptable and need to be challenged.

"I have spoken to officials in the Environmental Health department of Omagh District Council to ensure that a reoccurrence of this isolated incident isn't repeated. Furthermore I would urge local residents to remain vigilant so that further such incidents are minimised.
