Sinn Fein Mid Tyrone councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald has welcomed a fuel payment provided by the executive in Stromont to those in receipt of benefits. The payments, which have been released within the past week, range from £75 - £100. Read full article

Representations being made following Ballycolyman issues survey-Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin Councillor Brian Mc Mahon has thanked residents of the old and new Ballycolman for taking the time to respond to an 'issues survey' that local party members have been conducting on a door-to-door basis in the area over the past fortnight saying that Sinn Féin has already made written representations to Roads Service, the Housing Executive and Council seeking progress on a wide variety of issues residents in both areas want to see addressed. Unadopted roads issue highlighted

Mid Tyrone Sinn Féin Councillor, Declan Mc Aleer has called on Roads Service to take a more pro-active approach in dealing with housing developments and public areas which have not been adopted. Doherty welcomes commitments from A5 contractor that local economy will be major beneficiary of construction work

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP MLA Pat Doherty has welcomed written commitments he has received from Farrans and Graham, the appointed joint contractors for the Ballygawley to Omagh section of the A5, that it will be sourcing equipment, materials, subcontractors and construction workers locally when work is scheduled to start later this year and that the company anticipates that the vast majority of the money spent will go back into the local economy. Councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald has lambasted Health Minister Edwin Poots after he revealed, in answer to an Assembly question from Pat Doherty MP that the provision of inpatient acute mental health care and addiction services proposed for the new Omagh hospital are currently under review by the Health and Social Care Board. Omagh community call for progress on Derry Road development

Representatives of Omagh community sector met with the Planning Minister, Alex Attwood in Stormont yesterday (Monday) to push for progress on the development of the Strathroy Link Road and the £350 million Opportunity Omagh development proposal on the town's Derry Road. The site was granted outline planning approval last year, while a reserved matters application for a Tesco store on the site is currently under consideration. Read full article

Boyle questions Minister on Ballycolman sewage overflow.

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Michaela Boyle has asked DRD Minister Danny Kennedy to establish whether any underlying infrastructure problems contributed to the sewage overflow which flooded gardens at the bottom of the Ballycolman Estate in Strabane last Thursday and, if so, provide details of how his Department will address these problems. Suicide Prevention Youth Events organised across Tyrone

Ógra Shinn Féin in Tyrone have teamed up with PIPS (Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide) to organise three suicide prevention training programmes. The 'Mind Your Mate' programmes are aimed at 16 - 24 year olds, and equip participants with the skills to look out for each other and to look after their own personal mental health. Unionist politicians 'clutching at straws' in arguing for retention of Castlederg PSNI station-Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin Councillors from the Derg Electoral Area of Strabane District Council say that the case for the closure of Castlederg PSNI station is overwhelming and have accused some unionist elected representatives, who continue to argue that it should be retained on 'security grounds,' of clutching at straws. Sinn Féin councillors Ruairí Mc Hugh, Kieran Mc Guire and Maolíosa Mc Hugh have issued a joint statement fully backing the PSNI station closure prior to the issue being discussed at a public consultation meeting in the Derg Valley Leisure Centre at 8pm next Wednesday Night. Issue of un-adopted private developments to be subject of DRD Committee Inquiry-Doherty

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP MLA Pat Doherty says that the Assembly's Committee for Regional Development has initiated an inquiry into the issue of 'Un-adopted Roads' and trusts that the findings and recommendations of this inquiry will be taken on board and auctioned by the Minister especially given the continuing situation whereby many homeowners are forced to wait an unsatisfactorily long number of years before the private developments which they moved into are finally officially adopted.
