Mid Tyrone experiences power cutsPublished: 8 March, 2010
The loss of electricity on Sunday night has drawn an angry response from NIE costumers in Mid Tyrone. According to Mid Tyrone Sinn Féin Councillor Sharon O'Brien it had been the latest interruption in electricity supply since before Christmas. She claims that homes in the Mid Tyrone have been without electricity for various lengths of time between the 22nd of December and Sunday night.
Speaking she said:
"I have been inundated with complains from NIE customers who are justifiably angry at the continual loss of supply. This has been ongoing from just before Christmas and to say people are annoyed would be an understatement. Some of those I have spoken had been without electricity for periods exceeding three hours.
"I have been in contact with NIE officials to highlight the frustration of people on the ground and press for action on the issue. They have informed me that they were aware of a fault in the Loughmacrory area on Sunday evening and were working to rectify it. It is my understanding that homes in the Loughmacrory, Carrickmore and Beragh areas were amongst those affected
"Given that this has been a recurring issue for over 2 months now it is high time the issue was resolved. This is an inconvenience for those in the affected area but furthermore it is especially inconvenient and hazardous for those who are in a more vulnerable position and dependent upon electricity for their wellbeing.
"I have been assured that NIE officials are working to resolve the issue hope that the situation is rectified so that further loss of power is avoided. |
