Doherty welcomes £25 boost to farmers in disadvantaged areas.

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP and Assembly Agriculture Committee member Pat Doherty says that the issuing of of £25 million payments under the 2010 Less Favoured Area Compensatory Scheme will be a welcome boost to farmers in disadvantaged areas.

He said,

"I welcome the announcment by Minister Michelle gildernew that payments under the 2010 Less favoured Area Compensatory Aloowance Scheme have now began to issue and that it is expected that 90% of claims will be paid by the end of March.

"Michelle Gildernew has been extremely pro-active in attempting to address the particular needs of farmers in poorer areas and these payments worth some £25 million will be a welcome boost to farmers in disadvantaged areas.
