Electoral Office Registration and Photo ID Clinic coming to town

Published: 4 February, 2010

Sinn Féin Councillor Michaela Boyle says that people who are not yet registered to vote or who have not yet secured an Electoral Office Photo ID Card have a golden opportunity to do both at the same time in Strabane later this month.

She said,

"As part of Sinn Fein's ongoing efforts to ensure that everyone who wants to vote secures that right, we have successfully lobbied the Electoral Office to a hold a local Clinic whereby everyone over 17 years of age, will be facilitated both in registering to vote and in securing an Electoral Office Photo ID Card (Free of charge):.The only information you will require will be your Name, Address and National Insurance Number.

This local Electoral Office Clinic will take place in Strabane Library on Tuesday 16 February between 5pm and 8pm.

"At every election tens of thousands of eligible voters in the six counties find themselves disenfranchised because they are not registered to vote and/or do not have photographic ID.

"In Strabane town alone there are currently 1, 250 postal addresses where no one at all is registered to vote and this is over and above the large number of households where only some of the eligible voters are registered.
