Gortin Traffic concerns allayedPublished: 28 January, 2010
Sinn Féin mid Tyrone councillor Sean Clarke has welcomed action from Roads Service aimed at alleviating traffic concerns in Gortin on mart days.
According to the local councillor he had been inundated with complaints from local householders and businesses who were unable to access their properties during mart days due to vehicles being virtually abandoned on the Main Street :
"I had been asked by constituents in Gortin to forward their concerns regarding car parking arrangements during mart days, usually on a Monday evening. Local residents were unable to access their houses and businesses and were adversely affected by the poor parking of many people attending the mart. On many occasions vehicles were abandoned for many hours throughout the duration of the mart.
"I sought assurances from Roads Service that this issue was dealt with in a satisfactory manner for all involved. Subsequently Roads Service and the PSNI traffic branch held a site meeting on the issue and have provided a report to myself on the progress. Roads Service have proposed providing a 'white bar marking' at each entrance to identify the locations that need to be kept clear of parked vehicles.
"I hope that such measures help to alleviate concerns of local residents and assists them to access their properties and businesses during mart days in the future. Hopefully this will go someway towards reducing the frequency of occurrence of this problem.CRÍOCH |
