Omagh Town Councillor, Sean Begley has spoken out after two very serious incidents in Omagh town in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In the first incident, which occurred just after midnight, a man was stabbed during an altercation in a flat on James Street. In the second incident, a middle aged man was the victim of an attempted robbery in the vicinity of the Fold Housing Association.

According to Cllr Begley, who is also a member of Omagh DPP "I have spoken to the PSNI about both incidents and I understand that at least one man is in custody helping with inquiries. I also understand that the stab victims injuries are not life threatening and that he has been released from hospital.

"The second incident was also very sinister. At this stage, it appears that it was a distraction robbery involving a male and a female. During the incident the victim, who is a gentleman in his 60's, was forced to the ground during what must have been a terrifying ordeal.

In conclusion, Cllr Begley said "These latest attacks follow in a series of other very worrying incidents in the town. Recently, we have resolved at DPP level to initiate a multi agency approach to stamp out such crime. These latest incidents only serve to strengthen our resolve to continue with our efforts to make our communities safer".
