Welcome for Dooish road Traffic calmingPublished: 5 November, 2008
Sinn Fein West Tyrone councillor Frankie Donnelly has said proposed traffic calming measures to the Dooish road in Drumquin will bring huge safety befits for motorists using the dangerous road. He was speaking after Roads Service has proposed a drop of the speed limit from 60 mph to 40 mph on a stretch of the road.
DRD Roads Service has proposed that the 40 mph speed limit currently covering McCrea Park on the Dooish road be extended on the stretch of road. This extension would see the 40-mph remain in place until just before the Bradan road turnoff on the Dooish road.
Welcoming the initiative Sinn Féin councillor Frankie Donnelly said:
"This proposal by Roads Service is a great stride forward for the safety of motorists and residents of this road. The road, which serves as the main Dromore to Drumquin road has seen numerous Road Traffic collisions and measures like this to prevent such accidents happening in the future must be welcomed.
"The recent completion of the play area on this stretch of road will also be covered by the drop in the speed limit which will improve safety for those using the play area.
"The need for action on this road has been sought for some time. There were concerns about the speed of traffic and the potential for accidents. I commend the Roads Service for going ahead with this initiative. These measures are welcome as they will help reduce speed and improve safety for all. ENDS |
