Columban Terrace residents have a right to be left in peace-Sinn Fein

Strabane Sinn Fein Councillor Brian Mc Mahon has appealed to a small group of teenagers who have been making life a misery for residents of Columban Terrace in the old Ballycolman area of the town to stop and reflect on the hardship they are causing.

He said,

"Last Monday night a group of teenagers attacked homes in Columban Terrace with muck and stones. This serious incident is but the latest of many similar such incidents in recent years whereby homes in this terraced row have been targeted by assorted forms of missiles including eggs and tomatoes. It is also clear that certain residents are being signalled out for 'special treatment'

"On previous occasions Sinn Féin members have endeavoured to bring a halt to such incidents by talking to the young people who were identified as being involved. While this approach has met with some success it is unfortunate that a small minority have taken it upon themselves to re-commence this type of activity which is causing so much hardship and misery for local residents.

"Many of the residents of Columban Terrace are senior citizens and perhaps those involved in these attacks view their property as being easy targets. This makes the situation all the more deplorable.

"I would appeal for those involved to examine their conscious and desist from any further activity of this kind and I would also appeal to everyone in the community to stand together and challenge this type of activity whenever they see it occurring. ENDS
